The BioRegion, for everyone
Biocat works actively to provide up-to-date information about the BioRegion of Catalonia and the agents that form it, both companies and research entities. This information is transferred to professionals in the sector and to the public through different communication channels, and always in three languages - Catalan, Spanish and English - in order to reach a diverse audience and contribute to the knowledge and promotion of the BioRegion in the international sphere.
Websites, social networks and the media are the main tools used by Biocat to disseminate the news about the BioRegion.
The Biocat website, which is published in Catalan, Spanish and English, in 2017 received a total of 200,891 visits from 103,945 unique users, representing an increase of 13.5% and 23.46%, respectively, on the previous year. Also of note is the consolidation of the new B·Debate website, which saw an increase of visits and unique users, by 373% and 412%, respectively, compared to the previous year, after its redesign at the end of 2016.
During 2017, more than 120 news articles, interviews and reports were published on the site in each of the three languages. In this sense, in the last quarter of the year, a new editorial strategy was started to promote the content itself. Biocat’s job board has become a benchmark in the sector and continues to be the most visited section on the site.
In 2017, a total of 243 electronic communications about activities of interest to the sector were sent to more than 12,000 subscribers, including 11 editions of the monthly E-News (trilingual). International readers have increased significantly: the number of subscribers to our newsletters in English rose by 13%.
Social networks
Biocat has consolidated itself as a benchmark source of information about the sector in social networks, where the entity is actively involved in organizing and disseminating its own content and sharing content of generated by Catalan companies and research entities. In 2017, across all its social networks, Biocat attracted a total of 23,983 followers and its content generated 2.9 million impressions.
The network with the most followers is Twitter, with a total of more than 17,000 followers in 2017 across the various Biocat accounts in Catalan, Spanish and English and those of Moebio and B·Debate. The fastest growing network, however, is LinkedIn, where the number of followers increased by more than 50% to 6,886 followers between Biocat’s page on LinkedIn and the Moebio page. The shared content on this social network generated 383,089 impressions.
Source of data and knowledge
In addition, continuous updating of the sector data has allowed us to continue to expand the Catalan Life Sciences directory and compile the information necessary for preparing the Biocat Report 2017, which was prepared during the year with publication due in the last quarter of 2018.
In this regard, Biocat has become a benchmark when it comes to providing rigorous and up-to-date data on the sector. Throughout the year, Biocat handles numerous requests for data and information from other entities and the media.
Regarding the latter, during the course of 2017, Biocat’s media coverage included 89 mentions in the written press, 412 in digital press and 9 appearances on radio and television. Biocat is seeking an international media presence. In 2017 it received 11 mentions in international media, including the report The BioRegion of Catalonia: What’s Behind the European Country with More Pharma Companies per Capita?, published in the winter print edition of IPI Pharm and in the digital version in January 2018.
